Resources and Information for Family and Friends
The following resources may be of help to people who have family or friends in Haiti.
- The State Department Operations Center has set up the following number for Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti: 1-888-407-4747 (Due to heavy volume, some callers may receive a recording).
- Calls regarding the welfare of U.S. citizens can be made to the Embassy's Consular Task Force in Port-au-Prince at 509-2229-8942, 509-2229-8089, 509-2229-8322 or 509-2229-8672.
- Due to the high volume of calls, the State Department is requesting that people with Internet access send inquiries about U.S. citizens in Haiti to Haiti-Earthquake@State.Gov. Please include the following information:
- The full name, date of birth and passport information (if known) of the persons in Haiti you are trying to contact
- The person's contact information in Haiti; telephone numbers, email address, hotel name or address (if known)
- Your name and contact information, and your relationship to the person in Haiti (parent, spouse, friend etc.)
- Any special or emergency circumstances
- The emergency hotline for families of UN staff members in Haiti is 212-963-4139.
- CNN's iReport is offering a missing persons photo posting. In addition, Facebook is offering an Earthquake Haiti Facebook page where family members can post information on missing loved ones.
- Visit the U.S. Embassy in Haiti Web site for the most up-to-date information on locating loved ones in Haiti.
- In addition, the International Committee of the Red Cross has set up a Family Links page that will assist people of any nationality with finding missing relatives in Haiti. People in Haiti can also use the site to establish contact with relatives in other countries.
